April 11, 2013 - Welcome My hybrids at (2013 Info & Catalog)
Reticulata bloom is well under way. For "up-to-the-minute" information check out 'Reticulata Iris' on Facebook.
If you don't have a Facebook account, simply Google "Facebook Reticulata Iris," for a link to see some of my new hybrids. Eventually this site will be updated, but there's a lot of work required to organize all of the photos, link everything together, etc.

Orange Glow is once again available from Janis Ruksans!
In another week I will be enjoying the sights and sounds of Paris. Then at the beginning of March I will be heading up to Breezand, The Netherlands for the Lentetuin flower show (sorry, I still haven't had any time to post pictures from previous years in the Galleries webpages).
Dec 20, 2012
Bloom was very, very early this year. How early, I'm not 100% sure because I was in Paris as well as at the Lentetuin ("Spring Garden" in Dutch) flower show in Breezand Holland. When I left on February 23, two buds of 05-EN-1 where up but not yet open (I covered them with dish pans before I left). Cooler temperatures meant they were still open, but nearly finished, when I arrived back home on March 13. The last time bloom start this early was in 2000 and 2002.
My wife Lynda put out numerous dish pans as buds came up and started to show colour.
In my opinion this year's best new hybrid was 05-GQ-3 ! I like it's darker colours better than 05-EP-2 (sorry 05-EP-2). It's one that should definitely be introduced.
We'll see if that sentiment continues to hold true when it blooms next year. Occasionally a hybrid looks spectacular the first year it blooms, and subsequently looses its luster. Case in point was 01-FS-1. It looked absolutely gorgeous when it first bloomed in 2007. In subsequent years the absolute colours weren't quite the same.
This year's 2nd best hybrid was 05-CK-1. Brown is not showy from a distance, but in this case the large fall blades with their bright yellow centers really help. It's colours are simply elegant. It had tried to bloom last year, but a slug nipped off the bud before it had a chance to open. ...more
